Intent
At Little Weighton Rowley, our design and technology curriculum enables children to use their creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems in a variety of contexts. Our curriculum gives opportunities for children to reflect upon and evaluate past and present technological design. When designing, making and evaluating, children will consider their own and others’ needs, wants and values. Our curriculum will promote children as innovators, problem solvers and risk takers.
Through providing children with opportunities to design, make and evaluate, our design and technology curriculum with enable children to:
- Develop a range of creative, technical and practical skills needed for everyday life
- Develop functional, appealing products that are aimed at an intended audience and that are fit for purpose
- Research information and think for themselves, give reasoned answers, work independently, be enterprising, and develop good resilience and attitudes to learning
- Become analytical thinkers, identifying the features, problems and solutions to design challenges
- Consider the views of others, evaluate their ideas and products against their own design criteria
- Understand the principles of nutrition and be able to cook a range of different food that form part of a healthy diet
