Intent
At Little Weighton Rowley, our Mathematics curriculum enables children to develop the necessary mathematical knowledge and skills that are essential for everyday life now and in the future. We want our children know basic number facts/concepts etc to be able to work methodically organised whilst also have the confidence to tackle problems involving tricky concepts Our curriculum aims to inspire out children to become scientists, technologists, engineers or financiers of the future.
Our mathematics curriculum will enable children to:
- be confident in using fundamental arithmetic operations of maths (the four rules + - x ÷)
- develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately
- become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, including through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems over time, so that pupils develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately
- reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry, conjecturing relationships and generalisations, and developing an argument, justification or proof using mathematical language
- solve problems by applying their mathematical knowledge to solve a variety of routine and non-routine problems
- use their mathematical skills to break down problems into a series of simpler steps and persevering in seeking solutions
