Our Slice of Pie Books
At Little Weighton Rowley Primary School we really value the importance of reading. We want to promote a love of books and reading for all our children. We know that this is key to future success. We want our children to read widely, fluently with good understanding. We want our children to gather and use a range of vocabulary in all aspects of their lives. Our 'Slice of PIe' books are books that offer children a chance to taste a piece of reading pie!
There has been a lot of research undertaken about the importance of reading and how it makes a huge impact on children’s learning. Pie Corbett’s Reading Spine is a core of books that create a living library inside a child’s mind. It is a store of classics and essential reads that help children engage at a deeper level and enter the world of the story.
The books below are the ones that are recommended for each class and year group within it. Parents/carers may like to buy/borrow these from the library for home or buy/borrow some other titles by the same author. Please click on the link for each class.
